Lovell - Walter William

Chicago police today were investigating the fatal shooting of a former Danville and Catlin resident as a Wells Fargo security guard at the University of Chicago campus. He is Walter W. Lovell, 58, of Oak Forest, a Chicago suburb. he was shot and killed in his auto on the campus Saturday night. Chicago police said Lovell apparently was accosted by a gang of youths who attempted to rob him. Police said Lovell fired six shots at his assailants before he was killed. Walter William Lovell was born March 9, 1910, in Catlin, a son of Thomas Andrew and Della Ferguson Lovell. His schooling was in Catlin. He had lived in Oak Forest two years. He had been employed in Danville by Hall Freight Lines, the Wagner Construction Co., and drove a school bus. Surviving are his widow, Elnora; three sons, Thomas Andrew Lovell of State Line, Ind., Walter William Lovell, Jr. of Chicago, and Jack Dennis Lovell in the Army in Okinawa; a daughter, Mrs. William (Ruth Mary) Sutter of Helena, Mont.; a brother, Henry George Lovell, Danville, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death my his parents, a brother and three sisters. He was a member of the State Line Church of the Nazarene. His hobbies were hunting and fishing. He was a former member of the Danville Teamsters Local. The body is at the Pape Memorial Home. Arrangement are incomplete. --Typed by Debby Masterson.
